We are only one week away from the release of Mark’s solo record “All I Was.”  The album is getting stellar reviews from assorted media outlets.  This past Saturday, the boys did a surprise rehearsal show down in Orlando at the Social.  You can read about the show here.  NoiseCreep also conducted a recent interview with Mark about the record and his influences that can be checked out here.

We also want to thank everyone for voting for Mark in the WJRR best guitarist poll.  Mark is currently in the finals of Bracket A against Eddie Van Halen.  Keep up the great work and let’s win this thing.  Click below to cast your vote in the poll.

In anticipation of the release, we here at FRET12 have put together some questions and activities to get everyone geared up for the big day.  We have an activity for every track on the album so head over to our Facebook or Twitter to participate.

This past weekend we had the chance to hang out with the boys of Tenacious D at their show in Chicago.  We got some great footage of our contest winners meeting the band and will have it up shortly for you all to check out.  We are currently having some technical difficulties with YouTube, but we are doing our best to get it uploaded.  If it’s not up by the end of the day, check back tomorrow.

Check out our interview with Joshua and Justin from Motion City Soundtrack.  We will be doing interviews on July 21st at Mayhem with Kerry King of Slayer, Jim Root #4 and Mick Thompson #7 of Slipknot, as well as Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano of Anthrax.  Click on their names and send us your questions!

This week we have an all new bundle for you guys that we call the Plug N Play.  It features the Morley Mark Tremonti Wah, the T-REX Mark Tremonti Phase, and all 3 Sound and Story DVDs.  Click the pic below to head over to the store.

That does it for today’s Between the Frets.  As always, hit us up anytime via Facebook or Twitter and check out for all things guitar.  While you’re at it, be sure to check out the ever growing Army of 12

Bonjour, and welcome to mid-week madness at your home for all things guitar; FRET12!

This week has been jam-packed with a killer new-music-Tuesday (I miss those), as well as some very visually-appealing new music video releases (yes, they totally still make those), as well as some more-than-excellent music news from all around the music world!  So without further dudes, LET US COMMENCE!!!

{Where to begin, where to begin… to FRET12 nation, this may or may not come as news, but is always a splendid way to begin:}

First and foremost, FRET12 Records is in the process of dropping its smashing new single from Tremonti, the new group featuring project namesake Mark Tremonti on guitars/bass and now lead vocals!  Also included in the ensemble is Eric Friedman and Garrett Whitlock, (guitar and drums respectively) from former Wind-Up band Submersed. To fill in the low-end in the live performance area will be the one and only Brian Marshall of Alter Bridge and Creed fame.

The single is called “You Waste Your Time”, and you can check out the bitchin’ album artwork, created by none other than Mr. Daniel Tremonti himself!

You can’t get any fresher than that!

D’accord that seems about it as far as your FRET12 news from the crew, time for your weekly dose of music news!  LET’S GO!

(it’s great to hear those words again)

Yesterday, May the 15th, had quite the plethora of spankin’ new music from a bunch of artists

Who remembers the band Garbage?!

Guess what?  They just released their fifth studio album, their first since 2007

Not Your Kind of People

Many of you may or may not know, that Garbage is almost MORE well-known for the producers their band has created.  Ever heard the names Billy Bush?  He has worked with artists like Natasha Bedingfield, The Subways, Muse, The Offspring, Beck, and many more!

Even more notorious, is the epic producer Butch Vig!  He is the drummer for Garbage and has produced everything from the Foo Fighters’ latest “Wasting Light”, to Goo Goo Dolls, AFI, Green Day, Against Me!, Helmet (one of my favorites), Jimmy Eat World, and even more legendary early 90s albums like Nirvana’s “Nevermind”!

Give this record a listen, the production (obviously) is top-notch, and the songs are well-penned and make for a great listen.

Among other releases from Adam Lambert, Lisa Marie Presley, we also have a brand new record from HOT WATER MUSIC!

Holy crap!  These guys have not put out anything in eight years!  It just so happens to be their eighth studio record!  For a band that has taken several hiatus’ as well as survived the waves of punk rock trauma, they have persevered the quagmire of the music industry and released album #8 entitled Exister

Hot Water Music; Exister

If you have been waiting since 2004 to hear something new from these guys, your prayers have been answered!  Go buy it and let us know what you think!

And finally, we have the much-anticipated release from our fellow guitar-brethren in GUITARINGS

Guitarings is an all-guitar show featuring the six-stringers from Tenacious D.

Acoustic axeman Kyle Gass, and electric touring monster John Konesky will teach you the ropes of guitar with their signature blend of humor and tact in a fan-focused format (yeah, alliteration!) creating a quality blend of guitar instruction and entertainment.

The boys of the D have just released another long-awaited album, their first in six years, entitled: RIZE OF THE FENIX.

Tenacious D; Rize of the Fenix

All spelling aside, this album has had quite a bit of hype surrounding it, and feature Guitarings-interviewee/Producer John Kimbraugh.

John King was also enlisted to help with the production, and features John on all electric guitar, as well as another drumming session with the infamous Dave Grohl.

I can only personally hope for a “drive-thru part 2” on this record… so we shall see

More excellent new music is slated for release next week, as well as many more planned 2012 releases so stay tuned for all that!

Oh yeah, can’t forget the new music videos!

I have two amazing videos I have to post from yesterday and monday, go give em a watch!

First is the KILLER new song from P.O.D. (complete original line up!) called “Lost In Forever (Scream)”

<iframe width=”560” height=”315” src=”” frameborder=”0” allowfullscreen></iframe>

Featuring a cool 6/8 groove, this song has an amazing melody from Sonny, as well as the ‘satellite-esque’ guitar grooves that Marcos Curiel is known for!  The video is definitely conceptual and artistic, and is shot in a very modern light reflecting the polished sound of this new era for the band.  Cheers to a return to form!  I also had the chance to check out P.O.D. live when FRET12 interviewed Anthony Armstrong of the band RED, and both bands absolutely killed it!  I highly recommend checking out this tour while it lasts, because it’s tough to find a line up this amazing, playing at such small clubs!

And second, is the brand new song from Slash featuring Myles Kennedy on lead vocals!  The song is called “You’re a Lie” and has some great riffs coupled with a solid groove and an infectious repeating melody line.

<iframe width=”560” height=”315” src=”” frameborder=”0” allowfullscreen></iframe>

You can never go wrong with a cool, well-lit performance music video!

bill ward

FRET12 has talked many a time about the Black Sabbath reunion, and sadly it now seems it is done for good.  Bill Ward has announced that he is no longer in the band anymore citing the fact that it is no longer the original direction of the band.  Many times, fans discuss a band’s roots, or a ‘return to form’, and this seems like that notion has now hit home not with the fans, but with the artist itslef.

Bill Ward claims it is a shame that fans will no longer get to see the full original lineup that they have waited so long for: “[it would be the] first to feature Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Ward since 1979.”

If you want to read more about it, check out more information here:

pantera walk ep

All fans of southern heavy metal giants Pantera, will be excited this year, due to the release of the band’s new/lost single “Piss” as well as a new EP featuring new edits and cuts of the band’s crushing hit “Walk”.  Hell, this isn’t even a hit, this is an anthem.  Any self-respecting metalhead should go pick this shit up, if he knows what’s good for ‘im.  Phil Anselmo may come looking for you otherwise…

Check out the crazy video for “Piss” right here!

Time to go polar-opposites on you, for all of you blues fans out there

joe bonnamassa

Fellow FRET12 interviewee and blues giant, Joe Bonnamassa will be releasing new material in the UK on May 21!

Read all the details over here:

Furthermore if you haven’t caught our interview with the king of tone, you HAVE to go watch this right now!

That will just about do it for this smashing new edition of Between the Frets.

Keep your eyes peeled for the return of the Shredcast Show Notes (visual notes that pair with each episode for your true viewing pleasure) as well as weekly updates of music news and more all from your guitar loving crew at FRET12!
